WHAT EVEN IS AN OCTOBERQUEST, BRO?

What the heck even is an Octoberquest, you say? That's a most excellent question.

Octoberquest sounds like Octoberfest, but it has nothing to do with beer and sausages.

Octoberquest can be an arduous, grueling, physical ordeal you put yourself through for an entire month. It makes you better.

Octoberquest can be a torturous, demanding, mental trial, where you push yourself to your absolute limts.

The important thing about Octoberquest is regimen. It's about disciplining yourself. It's about cultivating stick-to-it-iveness. Octoberquest is an opportunity to start doing some of (or all of) those things you've been meaning to get to for years.

Have you been meaning to drop some weight? It's your lucky day! Or, rather, your lucky month. Octoberquest says set your macros, weigh your portions, count your calories. Even on the weekends!

Did you want grow up to be a writer when you were a kid? Octoberquest says it's time for you to grow up and actually start writing. Everyday. Select an ambitious but attainable word count, and hit that number every day in October. Octoberquest is an excellent training path to move on to NaNoWriMo.

Want to run a 6 minute mile? I'll bet you can get there by the end of October. Push yourself.

Want a new PR on your squat? Octoberquest says it's time you started Smovlov and actually finished it this time.

Tired of your computer always beating you at chess? Octoberquest invites you to actually finally start learning the game like you've always said you were going to. Show that machine who's boss! Octoberquest demands it!

That adventure you've been fiddling with off an on for a decade? Octoberquest graciously grants you a month to ready your RPG module for publication. Accomplish this deed!

Octoberquest can be anything.

IT'S A QUEST ...

... A DIFFICULT, BUT OBTAINABLE GOAL OR GOALS ...

... OF YOUR OWN DEVISING ...

... THAT YOU ACCOMPLISH IN OCTOBER.

If you succeed, you get to reward yourself with some Halloween candy at the end of the month. But more than that, you get the self satisfaction of knowing you did something with yourself this October, and also of knowing that what you started was just the beginning.

  1. I am down for this! I am trying to lose weight and it started out great but the weight loss has halted at 15 lbs like it does every time. I think it's my alcohol intake, which opens the door to snacking (even if it's low cal snacks).

So my goal is to lose 20 lbs in over Octoberquest.

    1. YOU CAN DO IT!

Yeah, alcohol is both the cause and cure of all of my problems. I'm still trying to decide what I want my OCTOBERQUEST goals to be, but there definitely needs to be some wine curtailment on my part.

I might write something about alcohol.
